I saw your video on the Van Der Hagen safety racer. I saw it at target and thought I’d try it. I got the soap and the brush, had a really good lather, but my experience (I had only used safety razors
Before this first shave) was not that great, especially around the neck. Should I try for a better blad, like the Vikings Godfather? Any advice? Thanks!
A pre-shave oil is also a good idea. I use the vikings blade Pre shave oil: http://amzn.to/2FprGHD
I found it to be nice and slick as opposed to one I tried from The Art of Shaving which was more on the sticky side.
Next, yes, try a blade that is bit milder. Vikings blade raxor blades are quite mild yet stil sharp for an efficient shave. They can be found at: http://amzn.to/2Eko3mV
the next thing to do is try a blade sampler. You can gind thee at other shaving websites like West Cost shaving, Maggards, etc. Try different blades.
The Van Der Hagen is a good razor. It’s a re-branded Weishi 9306. A good razor for beginners. I own two (one, like yours is a Van der Hagen) and like the shave.:) Well made!
You may also want to try a god synthetic brush. I suggest a Plissoft brush form ItalianBarber.com. They only cost 10 bucks. Synthetics have greatly improved over the years and really builds heaps of lather. So, it’ll help you to do proper prep. Whip up a good lather and try a pre-shave oil.

Sorry for the late reply.:) Sifting through some spam in the comments section.:)
I’d first recommend getting a tallow based soap. Try Fine Classic Shaving Soap – American Blend: http://amzn.to/2DSMrhZ or Tabac: http://amzn.to/2DJqCy5.
