A shave with Edwin Jagger Kelvin short-handle safety razor.

Note: I get a little bit more of an efficient shave from the shorter handled Edwin Jagger razors. This is not to say that EJ’s standard handled razors aren’t good. They are quite good. But for some reason, and it may be only me, I tend to get a slightly better shave with an Edwin Jagger short-handled razor. Conversely, I get some great shave with other long-handled razors like the Vikings blade Vulcan and Adjustable Crusader.:)

So, it may be the unique geometry of the EJ razor head. For me, it pairs up better with a short handle.:) Edwin Jagger makes a wide variety of safety razors. They come in all sorts of sizes, finishes, and weights. but they all sport the same terrific razor head.

When building lathers from shave sticks and hard soaps, I’ve always preferred using a synthetic brush. This is not to say that natural hair shaving brushes are bad with hard soaps and shave sticks. I simply find synthetic brushes are more efficient and make more lather.

In this video, I compare how a synthetic shaving brush (Vikings Blade Dark Raven) compares to a natural boar hair shaving brush (Semogue Excelsior 830) in building lather with Tabac shave stick.

To be clear, the Semogue Excelsior 830 is a terrific shaving brush! And, I’ve used it for face lathering. It’s just that a synthetic brush, like the Vikings Blade Dark Raven (another terrific shaving brush), I’ve found, do a better job making a face lather.
